Forward missed calls on an AT&T phone

Your phone rings for about 15 seconds first. If you don’t pick up, the call goes to your answering service instead of voicemail. Cricket Wireless phones use the same codes.

Before you start, have these

  • The AT&T cell phone your customers call.
  • Your answering service’s number: the number calls go to. With Wakeman, it’s on your Forwarding page.

AT&T doesn’t publish forwarding codes for its cell phones. These are the standard codes for networks like AT&T’s, the same ones our setup shows, so do the test once it’s on.

Turn it on

  1. Open the Phone app and tap Keypad

If the phone has two lines, pick the business line first.

  2. Dial the code with the answering number in it

Type it exactly as shown, with all 10 digits where the example has them. The 15 near the end is how many seconds your phone rings first.

    Example, if the answering number is (503) 555-0142**61* 503 555 0142 *11*15#
  3. Press Call and wait

You’ll hear a tone or a short message, or see a note on the screen that forwarding is on. Then hang up.

Also send the calls you decline

A call you decline, or one that comes in while you’re on the phone, counts as busy, and the code above leaves those going to voicemail. Dial this one too, the same way, to send them to your answering service:

**67* 503 555 0142 #

The example has (503) 555-0142 in it. To switch it off, dial ##67#.

Test it

  1. Call your business number from a different phone

Not the answering number. That only tests the answering service.

  2. Let it ring. Don’t press decline.

Declining can count as busy, which is a different setting.

  3. Check who answered

Your answering service should pick up. If your voicemail answers, forwarding isn’t on yet.

Turn it off

Dial ##61# on the same phone and press Call. If you also dialed the code for declined calls, dial ##67# too.

##61#

If it didn’t work

  • Dial it on the AT&T phone itself. AT&T only lets you change forwarding from the phone.
  • Check every * and #, and all 10 digits of the answering number.
  • An error, or nothing at all? Call AT&T (611 from your phone) and ask them to forward the calls you don’t answer to your answering number.
  • Still stuck? Our team can check it with you.

Good to know

  • AT&T bills a forwarded call for its full length, and long distance or roaming charges may apply. On some plans these minutes don’t count against the plan.
  • It only forwards to US numbers.
