Forward missed calls in Google Voice

On a Google Workspace account, your admin changes one ring group setting, and your phones still ring first. A personal Google Voice account can’t do this.

Checked October 9, 2026against Google Voice’s own help pages

Before you start, have these

  • A sign-in to Google Voice that can change settings. Some settings are only open to the account’s admin.
  • Your answering service’s number: the number calls go to. With Wakeman, it’s on your Forwarding page.

Turn it on

Where it is

  1. Admin console
  2. Apps
  3. Google Workspace
  4. Google Voice
  5. Ring groups
  1. Your Google Workspace admin opens the Admin console → Apps → Google Workspace → Google Voice → Ring groups, and opens the ring group for your business number.

  2. Under Configuration → Unanswered calls, they choose to forward the caller to your answering number, and save.

  3. This needs Voice Standard or Premier, and your business number must be the ring group’s own number.

Ring groups ring the members’ Voice apps, not their linked cell phones.

Test it

  1. Call your business number from a different phone

Not the answering number. That only tests the answering service.

  2. Let it ring. Don’t press decline.

Declining can count as busy, which is a different setting.

  3. Check who answered

Your answering service should pick up. If your voicemail answers, forwarding isn’t on yet.

Turn it off

Your admin sets Unanswered calls back to what it was before, such as voicemail, and saves.

A personal Google Voice account

A personal Google Voice account can’t send only the calls you don’t answer to another number: it rings all your linked phones at the same moment.

Adding your answering number as a linked phone would have it answer every call before you could, so we don’t suggest it. Our team can go through your options with you.
