Forward missed calls in Vonage Business

No codes to dial. Vonage calls it Follow Me: your own phones ring first, then your answering service.

Checked October 20, 2026against Vonage Business’s own help pages

Before you start, have these

  • A sign-in to Vonage Business that can change settings. Some settings are only open to the account’s admin.
  • Your answering service’s number: the number calls go to. With Wakeman, it’s on your Forwarding page.

Turn it on

Where it is

  1. Settings
  2. Call Forwarding
  1. Sign in at app.vonage.com, click your avatar, then Settings → Call Forwarding.

  2. Choose Follow Me.

  3. Ring your own extension first, for 15 to 20 seconds, then your answering number. Save it.

List your extension, not the cell your Vonage app is on: Vonage says that rings the cell twice at once and sends the call to voicemail.

Test it

  1. Call your business number from a different phone

Not the answering number. That only tests the answering service.

  2. Let it ring. Don’t press decline.

Declining can count as busy, which is a different setting.

  3. Check who answered

Your answering service should pick up. If your voicemail answers, forwarding isn’t on yet.

Turn it off

Open Settings → Call Forwarding again, choose Voicemail or whatever it was set to before, and save.

If it didn’t work

  • Give your extension 15 to 20 seconds, so you have time to pick up.
  • If calls go straight to your cell’s voicemail, take the cell’s number off the list and leave your extension.
  • If you run the account, you can set it for any extension in the Admin Portal: Phone System → Extensions, the pencil by the extension, then Call Forwarding. There, turn on Forward Calls and choose Follow Me.
  • Still stuck? Our team can check it with you.
